BIT has a reputation for producing company founders: it is one of the largest sources of listed-company founders among Chinese universities, especially in the automotive, electronics and new-energy vehicle sectors.
历史沿革
BIT was founded in 1940 in Yan'an as the Natural Science Academy, moving to Beijing in 1949 and becoming the Beijing Institute of Technology in 1952. It was one of the first national key universities designated in 1959.
It was affiliated with the Commission for Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence and remains under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. It joined Project 211 (1995), Project 985 (2000) and Double First Class (2017).
BIT operates the Zhongguancun campus, the Liangxiang campus in Fangshan and the Zhuhai campus in Guangdong, the last of which focuses on international and interdisciplinary education.

Beijing Institute of Technology employs around 3,600 academic staff, including about 12 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering. 12 national academy members. The School of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Information and Electronics supervise international graduate students in English.
