Confucius Institute Scholarship 2027 round: what is funded and how to apply
Full funding for one semester to four years of Chinese language study, with master's places available in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
The Confucius Institute Scholarship funds one-semester and one-academic-year Chinese language programmes, four-year bachelor's degrees in Chinese language and literature, and two-year master's degrees in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages. Awards cover tuition, on-campus accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance and a monthly stipend.
Applications are submitted through cis.chinese.cn, with the main window running from mid-February to late April for September entry and a second window in September for February intake. Applicants may nominate up to two host universities.
The largest host institutions include Beijing Normal University, East China Normal University, Fudan University, Beijing Language and Culture University, Nanjing University and most major provincial universities. Partner-institution nominations — where a Confucius Institute abroad nominates a candidate — carry a separate allocation of places that is frequently less competitive than the open route.
