What the successful accounts have in common
Across the accounts collected here, from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Ghana, Tanzania, South Africa, Sweden, Turkey and the Philippines, the same handful of decisions recur. Applicants who started eight to twelve months before the deadline succeeded far more often than applicants who started in the final weeks. Applicants who ran several applications in parallel — three to five universities, both CSC routes where policy allows, plus a provincial scheme — almost always ended the cycle with at least one funded offer. And applicants who contacted a supervisor or a programme office directly, with a specific proposal rather than a generic enquiry, were consistently the ones who ended up with a place.
