Yenching Academy at Peking University: two years of China studies, fully funded

An interdisciplinary English-taught master's across six research areas, with tuition, accommodation, stipend and travel covered.

The Yenching Academy is Peking University's flagship English-taught master's programme in China studies. It runs for two years and is organised around six research areas: literature and culture; history and archaeology; philosophy and religion; politics and international relations; economics and management; and law and society.

The fellowship covers tuition, on-campus accommodation, medical insurance, a monthly living stipend and a round-trip flight. Chinese language training is compulsory and streamed by level from absolute beginner, and every student completes a master's thesis supervised by a PKU faculty member.

There is no subject restriction and no Mandarin requirement. Applications go directly to the Yenching Academy, with deadlines typically in late autumn for enrolment the following September. Compared with Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua, Yenching is longer and more research-oriented; applicants aiming at a PhD with China content generally find it the better fit.

Tuition, deadlines and stipend figures are revised each cycle. Always confirm the current position with the university's international student office and on the official portal at campuschina.org before you apply.
