Optics Valley: Wuhan's photonics cluster and its graduate pipeline

East Lake High-Tech Development Zone is one of China's largest technology clusters and recruits directly from Wuhan and HUST.

Wuhan's East Lake High-Tech Development Zone, known as Optics Valley, is one of the largest technology clusters in China, specialising in fibre optics, lasers, displays and semiconductors. Fibrehome, China's leading fibre laser manufacturer, is a spin-off from Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

The zone sits next to HUST's Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, the largest optoelectronics research facility in the country, and recruits graduates from HUST and Wuhan University.

For international engineering students, Wuhan offers internship and graduate employment access comparable to coastal cities at roughly half the cost of living — a combination that makes it one of the strongest value propositions in Chinese higher education.

Tuition, deadlines and stipend figures are revised each cycle. Always confirm the current position with the university's international student office and on the official portal at campuschina.org before you apply.
