300 UK students from nine universities begin study tours at ten Chinese universities
A new China–UK mobility programme sends students from York, Birmingham, Edinburgh and others to six Chinese cities.
More than 300 students and staff from nine UK universities, including the University of York, the University of Birmingham and the University of Edinburgh, travelled to ten well-known Chinese universities in six cities in June 2026 as part of a China–UK study mobility programme launched in January.
The programme was announced at the 2026 China Study Abroad Forum in Beijing, where the former UK minister for universities, science, research and innovation described it as an example of high-quality, safeguarded bilateral exchange between the two countries.
For applicants, the practical relevance is that short-term mobility is expanding sharply in both directions, and Chinese universities are increasingly willing to host visiting students outside formal degree programmes — a low-commitment way to test whether China is right for you.
