Shanghai Government Scholarship 2027 round opens with Type A and Type B routes
Shanghai funds several thousand international students a year through two schemes with different coverage and different selection committees.
The Shanghai Government Scholarship operates in two tracks. Type A is a full award covering tuition, accommodation, medical insurance and a monthly stipend of CNY 2,500–3,500, with places allocated by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission to individual universities. Type B is a partial award, usually a full or substantial tuition waiver, nominated by the host university from its own applicant pool.
Both routes are applied for through the university's international admissions process rather than a central portal, and the typical deadline falls between February and April for September enrolment, with decisions issued between May and July.
Applicants are advised to apply to three or four Shanghai universities and to submit CSC Type B applications to the same institutions in parallel, since the schemes are assessed independently and a rejection from one does not affect the other.
