Degrees in Chinese language and literature for international students

Four-year Chinese-taught degrees in Chinese language, with large Confucius Institute Scholarship provision.

A four-year bachelor's degree in Chinese Language and Literature (or Chinese Language for Foreigners) is the standard academic route for international students who want deep language competence rather than a semester or two of study. Programmes run at Fudan, Peking, Beijing Normal, East China Normal, Nanjing, Nankai and most major universities.

The curriculum typically combines intensive language training in the first two years with literature, linguistics, classical Chinese, Chinese history and culture in the later years, plus a graduation thesis. Entry usually requires HSK 4–5, and Confucius Institute Scholarships cover tuition, accommodation, insurance and a stipend subject to annual review.

Graduates work in translation, international education, trade, tourism, media and diplomacy in their home countries, where Chinese-language ability is frequently a scarce and well-compensated skill.

Tuition, deadlines and stipend figures are revised each cycle. Always confirm the current position with the university's international student office and on the official portal at campuschina.org before you apply.
