Where to study

Central South University in Changsha is ranked first in China for both metallurgy and mining engineering, and its powder metallurgy research is internationally known. The University of Science and Technology Beijing is the historic metallurgy university, particularly strong in iron and steel. Northeastern University in Shenyang is strong in ferrous metallurgy and materials.

China University of Mining and Technology has campuses in Xuzhou and Beijing and is the leading mining engineering school. China University of Petroleum and Southwest Petroleum University lead in petroleum engineering.

What the research covers

Mineral processing, extractive metallurgy, powder metallurgy and hard materials, process control, mining safety and mine ventilation, deep mining and rock mechanics, petroleum reservoir engineering and drilling, and increasingly hydrometallurgy for battery metals and rare earths — a field of global strategic importance given China's dominance in refining.

Battery materials research and lithium, cobalt and rare-earth processing are the fastest-growing subfields.

Applicants and careers

These fields attract strong applicants from Africa, Latin America, Central Asia and Southeast Asia, where Chinese mining companies operate extensively. Many students come on CSC or bilateral scholarships and return to roles in their home mining sector with a Chinese education and, frequently, Chinese industrial contacts.

Postgraduate study is where the value is concentrated; undergraduate study is almost entirely in Chinese.

Les frais de scolarité, les échéances et les montants des bourses sont révisés à chaque cycle. Vérifiez toujours la situation en cours auprès du service des étudiants internationaux de l'université et sur le portail officiel campuschina.org avant de candidater.
