With the September intake arriving, universities and immigration authorities are repeating the two rules that cause the most difficulty for new international students. First, holders of an X1 visa must apply for a residence permit at the local exit-entry administration of the public security bureau within 30 days of entering China. The clock runs from the date of entry, not from the start of term.

Second, students who intend to work part-time or intern outside the university must obtain approval documents from both the school and the host organisation and then have the local exit-entry bureau add an annotation to the residence permit recording the location and duration of the activity. Students whose permits do not carry this annotation are not permitted to work or intern off campus.

A related point that catches students out: a visa exemption does not permit study. Students who enter China under a visa-free arrangement must leave and re-enter on an X1 or X2 visa before they can apply for a study residence permit.

Las cifras de matrícula, plazos y estipendios se revisan cada ciclo. Confirma siempre la situación actual con la oficina de estudiantes internacionales de la universidad y en el portal oficial campuschina.org antes de solicitar.
