Twelve to fifteen months out

Research universities and programmes, check the Ministry of Education list of recognised institutions, confirm your target programme is taught in a language you can handle, and start HSK study if you intend to study in Chinese. Contact prospective supervisors if you are applying for research degrees.

Six to nine months out

Sit HSK or IELTS/TOEFL. Register for CSCA if you are applying for an undergraduate scholarship. Draft your study plan or research proposal. Request transcripts and diploma notarisation, which takes weeks in most countries. Collect recommendation letters from two academic referees.

Three to six months out

Submit university applications. Obtain the pre-admission letter that CSC requires. Complete the Foreigner Physical Examination Form at a recognised clinic. Apply for a police clearance certificate — this is the document that most often delays applications, so start early. Submit the CSC Type A application through your embassy before its country-specific deadline.

Final three months

Receive the admission notice and the JW201 or JW202 form. Apply for the X1 visa at a Chinese embassy or consulate, using the COVA online form if your mission requires it. Book flights, arrange insurance and accommodation, and register your temporary residence at the local police station within 24 hours of arrival. Apply for the residence permit within 30 days.

Las cifras de matrícula, plazos y estipendios se revisan cada ciclo. Confirma siempre la situación actual con la oficina de estudiantes internacionales de la universidad y en el portal oficial campuschina.org antes de solicitar.
