快速回答

How the application started

Zohaib Ali found out about the Chinese Government Scholarship through social media and began preparing immediately rather than waiting for a formal announcement. He read the eligibility criteria carefully first and matched his documents to them, which is the step most applicants do last.

His bachelor's result was strong — 3.82 out of 4.0 in agriculture with a food science specialisation — and during that degree he had joined a research institute and learned basic food processing and preservation techniques. That laboratory exposure became the spine of the application.

The IELTS decision

The scholarship he applied for did not require an official English proficiency test. He sat IELTS anyway and scored 6.5, preparing with Cambridge practice material and free online lessons.

This is a recurring pattern in successful accounts: the test score is not needed for admission but it raises the ceiling on what the applicant can do next — a PhD in Europe, a scholarship that does require it, or a supervisor who wants evidence of English before committing.

His advice

His advice comes in three parts. Believe in yourself, because nobody else will carry the application for you. Be consistent, on the reasoning that large outcomes come from small efforts repeated daily rather than from one decisive action. And build the file with publications, relevant internships, good grades and online courses in the field — all of which he identifies as contributing to the outcome.

He is now studying food science and engineering in Changsha on the CSC, which covers tuition and dormitory fees in full and pays a monthly stipend of CNY 3,000 at master's level.
