ARWU 2025: 222 университета материкового Китая в рейтинге, 13 — в мировой сотне

The ShanghaiRanking Academic Ranking of World Universities 2025, published on 15 August 2025 as the 23rd edition of ARWU, ranked 1,000 research universities worldwide. Mainland China placed 222 institutions on the list — 19 more than the previous year and more than the United States' 183 — and 13 inside the global top 100.

• Tsinghua University: 18th (up four places), first time in the global top 20 and now the top-ranked Asian university
• Peking University: 23rd
• Zhejiang University: 24th
• Shanghai Jiao Tong University: 30th
• University of Science and Technology of China: 40th
• Fudan University: 41st
• Sun Yat-sen (65th), Huazhong University of Science and Technology (73rd), Nanjing (75th), Wuhan (81st), Sichuan (87th), Xi'an Jiaotong (92nd) and Central South (96th) also in the top 100

Twenty-two mainland universities entered the ranking for the first time, including Guangxi Normal University, Tianjin Polytechnic University, Anhui Normal University and Heilongjiang University. ARWU weights Nobel and Fields medals, highly cited researchers, Nature and Science publications, and per-capita academic performance, making it the most research-output-driven of the major rankings.
