Notes de terrain : sécurité, enregistrement policier et vigilance juridique en Chine

China is statistically very safe for international students. The legal risks that do exist are mostly administrative.

Day-to-day safety

Violent crime affecting international students is rare, and Chinese cities are generally safe to walk in at night, including for women travelling alone, by the standards of most large cities worldwide. Students consistently report that the main physical risks are traffic — especially electric scooters, which are silent and frequently disregard pedestrian rules — and cold weather in the north.

Petty theft exists in crowded tourist areas and on public transport but is considerably less common than in many comparable cities.

The administrative risks

Almost every serious problem international students encounter is administrative: an expired residence permit, an unregistered address, an unpermitted work arrangement, or possession of a substance that is legal at home and controlled in China. China maintains strict drug laws and penalties are severe; this is worth knowing before arrival rather than after.

Photography restrictions apply around military and some government sites. Public political activity by foreigners is restricted, and students who participate in unauthorised demonstrations can face visa consequences.

Practical precautions

Keep your registration documents with you, save the campus security number and 110 (police) in your phone, use licensed taxis or the major ride-hailing apps rather than unmarked cars, and register any travel outside your registered city with the university if required by your institution. Carry your passport or a copy plus your residence permit when travelling within China, because hotels will require it.

Les frais de scolarité, les échéances et les montants des bourses sont révisés à chaque cycle. Vérifiez toujours la situation en cours auprès du service des étudiants internationaux de l'université et sur le portail officiel campuschina.org avant de candidater.
