D'où viennent les étudiants internationaux en Chine : la répartition régionale
Asia accounts for 61% of enrolment, Africa 16%, Europe 16% and the Americas and Oceania 7%.
Ministry of Education data for 2024–2025 shows Asian students making up 61.1% of international enrolment in China, followed by Africa at 16.2% and Europe at 15.6%, with the Americas and Oceania together at 7.1%.
The pattern varies enormously by university. Sun Yat-sen University, Jinan University and Xiamen University have exceptionally large Southeast Asian communities. Wuhan, Sichuan, Central South and Zhengzhou have substantial African and South Asian cohorts, particularly in medicine. Tsinghua, Peking, Tsinghua's Schwarzman College and the Sino-foreign universities have the most European and North American students.
For applicants, the practical question is which university has an established community from your region — it affects everything from food to orientation support to alumni networks after graduation.
