Shenzhen hosts the Shenzhen University Town graduate schools of Peking and Tsinghua universities, the Harbin Institute of Technology Shenzhen campus and the Southern University of Science and Technology, alongside the headquarters of Huawei, Tencent, DJI, BYD and ZTE.
The specific advantage for engineering and design students is prototyping infrastructure: Huaqiangbei is the largest electronics market in the world, with component sourcing and small-batch manufacturing available within walking distance, and Shenzhen's PCB and injection-moulding suppliers translate a design into a physical object in days rather than months.
Internship access is correspondingly direct, subject to the standard rule that off-campus work requires school approval and an internship annotation on the residence permit.
