Beca del Gobierno de Shanghái: las modalidades A y B explicadas
Shanghai funds several thousand international students a year through two separate programmes with very different routes to entry.

Type A
Type A is a full scholarship covering tuition, accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance and a monthly stipend of CNY 2,500–3,500 depending on level. Places are allocated by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission to individual universities, which run their own selection.
You apply directly to the university's international admissions office and flag your interest in the Shanghai Government Scholarship in the application. The university then nominates you.
Type B
Type B is a partial award that typically waives all or part of the tuition fee. It is nominated by the host university from its own applicant pool and is generally easier to obtain than Type A.
Some universities also combine Type B with internal work-study positions or research assistantships to close the funding gap.
Strategic advice
Apply to three or four Shanghai universities rather than one, and apply separately to CSC Type B at the same institutions. Because the schemes are assessed by different committees, a rejection from one does not affect the other.
The deadline for most Shanghai schemes is earlier than applicants expect: February to April for a September start, with scholarship decisions usually issued between May and July.
